August Meeting and Announcements

August Meeting: AAA to Indie

Welcome to August!  It’s time to get things going on another IGDA Phoenix get together.  We’ll be meeting on August 22nd at 7pm in the Theatre Room at the University of Advancing Technology.  Please take note that this meeting falls on a Thursday night!

Our feature presentation this month will be from two former AAA game industry vets!

deannatrent1Deanna Nygren worked as a Senior Artist at Certain Affinity on Halo 4, Halo Anniversary, and Crimson Alliance (XBLA). Trenton Kennedy worked as a systems and content designer at Sony Online Entertainment on DC Universe Online and an unannounced MMO. Together they decided the craziest thing they could do was quit their jobs, move from Austin to Phoenix, and form Boldly Games.

Nygren and Kennedy will be presenting AAA to Indie: How the jump from big studio to tiny two person team changes everything. They’ll talk about their time in the industry, the good and the bad, and the lessons they’ve learned.

As always we will be providing free pizza to the meeting. A big thanks to the University of Advancing Technology for helping cover a large cost of the pizza, and another big thanks to all of the generous IGDA members that have been pitching in to the pizza fund over the past few months. If you’d like to contribute, please consider buying a Pizza Sponsor ticket to the meeting, or make a cash donation at the meeting.

See you on August 22nd, 7pm at UAT!
