February Meeting & Announcements

Our next meeting is February 26th, at 7pm, in the University of Advancing Technology’s Theatre Room.  If you’re planning to attend, please RSVP, as this gives us a good headcount for ordering food.

Game Projects vs Developer Morale

“One of the major issues in independent game development is keeping morale up, whether working solo or with a team.  While other talks focus on the human issues affecting morale, this talk will delve into how the actual technical & game design decisions ultimately (and subtly) affect your will to work on it.  Combined in the talk will be a postmortem of David’s 2013 Global Game Jam project, the point-and-click “Game Jam Adventure”, set in UAT itself.  The management of morale and technical barriers was significant in that development, in dealing with a recent concussion.”

This is the game that will be referenced in the talk on Wednesday, “Game Jam Adventure”.  It’s pretty short to play through, so enjoy and it will give a bit of context to the examples in the talk.

Presented by David Holz

idDavid is the director of Grindwork Corporation, which offers an application server platform based on AI technology.  He has worked on compilers, tools & frameworks, rendering algorithms, compression, security, and pretty much anything from hand-coded assembly language to server farms.  When not grinding away on some esoteric algorithm, he also hangs around the Commodore 64 demo scene, builds game tech, and keeps on learning.
