Kicking off July with a BIG Meeting

Hello! Hope you’re all enjoying the beginning of the terribly hot weather. Luckily, we’re holding all of our upcoming events in air conditioning!

Big Meeting July 1st

Our next big meeting is July 1st at 7pm at Boulders on Broadway. Just as a heads up, this time we will be starting the meeting right at 7.  If you want to get there early for the great happy hour specials and some pre-meeting mingling, feel free! Our guest speaker will be Shawn White.

His talk will cover important tools of the trade– different engines, what types of projects they best lend themselves to, and the basics on operation of all of them. We’re lucky enough to have Shawn as a speaker right before he leaves us to go to Denmark for a job, so I strongly suggest attending this meeting so you don’t miss out on the opportunity to take advantage of his wealth of knowledge!

Shawn, as described by the Flashbang website,  transforms artistic vision into technical implementation, through his encyclopedic knowledge of shaders and Unity’s graphics pipeline. Anytime you see an effect in a Flashbang game, and wonder how it was programmed, the answer is always Shawn.

Committee Meeting June 15th

We’ll be having a meeting for people interested in being a driving force behind any of our committees:

  • Developer Outreach
  • Fundraising
  • Arcade Cabinet
  • Games in Government
  • Student Outreach

…on Tuesday, June 15th.  Let me know if you’re interested in attending, because the location for the meeting will depend on how many people are attending.  If you have an idea for a committee that I didn’t mention, please attend the meeting as well!

Phoenix Developer Conference

Collins College is hosting a pretty incredible event on June 25th. To learn more and find out about RSVPing (there’s a free open bar in addition to great talks from developers both local and from California!), visit http://www.wix.com/PhoenixDC/2010. I would really love to see every Phoenix area developer there to show support for such a fantastic event!

Web Developer Needed

We also need someone to help us make our WordPress site look (more) impressive… if you’d be interested in volunteering to help us out, please shoot James or me an email back!

If you have any other questions or concerns or ANYTHING, please contact me! The rest of the exec board and I are eager to keep everything going strong!
